Green Lanterns : The Phantom Lantern Rebirth Vol.2 Review
Hey Guys, how's it going?
Seasoned readers of the blog will know that I love comics, graphic novels, comic style art, web-comics, and just anything comic. I love superheroes and my allegiance mostly lies with DC Comics, but I love Marvel movies and don't find anything wrong with their comics. I have read all of The New 52 Comics and have been reading DC's Rebirth line since it launched. Now they've released the trade paperbacks for the Rebirth line, one of the first is Green Lanterns. We'll be checking out an advance copy of Vol.2 of The Green Lanterns Trade Paperback.
The book has an interesting storyline with "the phantom lantern" along with the nice side stories that this Green Lanterns line has with Jessica dealing with anxiety along with Simon dealing with family issues and such.
The side stories are a nice touch that add a lot of interest to the story, nerds like myself will prefer to skip ahead to the action in the story, but newbies will get even more attracted to the story because of the fact that they are not seasoned comic lovers. This is a good move for DC that adds interest to the story and pleases new readers. The story ends on an awesome cliffhanger like DC books usually do and is an awesome, rich, and super pleasing story. The side stories also do a great job of nicely tying into the main storyline and influencing it.
Another thing that I found pleasing with this book was the appropriateness, while other comic books and DC Comics in general in this age are very provocative and unsuitable for kids. And while this one is not very suitable for kids, it's much more suitable than other comics of this day and age.
This book really marks where DC is headed with their Rebirth line. They're making their books more pleasing and welcoming to a much wider audience, while also keeping that classic DC action rolling. They're adding rich side stories that please new readers, while increasing the action that drove readers to their books. They're also decreasing the provocativeness and making the books more affordable(this one is just $13) and hence opening them up to a much wider audience.
Thanks for reading everyone, and i'll catch you in the next one!
