A Plant-able PENCIL?!
Hi Everyone, how's it going?
I come across some crazy and unbelievable things in this hobby of mine, one of those crazy things is Sprout. A pencil that you can stick into some dirt and water after you're done using it.
This was originally a project created by three MIT students back in 2012. It immediately started to spark curiosity in all parts of the world, interesting Danish entrepreneurs. Who then made a deal with the students in order to get the pencils out and about in local stores.
"When three American students from MIT in Boston in 2012 launched their idea of a plantable pencil on the world’s largest crowdfunding site kickstarter.com, things developed quickly. In 30 days more than 2000 people had invested approximately 40.000 USD in the project – an amount which far exceeded the expectations. The curiosity was extensive – also from founder of Sprout Michael Stausholm"
This is an awesome idea. The coolest use case that I could see for this is in a classroom environment. In my school we have a club named Club Terra that thinks up ideas to make our school more earth-friendly and then, we implement them with the help of our funding and grant director. There might be a project coming soon involving Club Terra(tease, tease). They sell Sprout in packs of 9 Pencils, this way if a school buys maybe 10 packs; the school can use a pack per classroom and have it be like a "backup writing utensil" section of each classroom. That way, once the students are done, they can go to the plants or the empty dirt pots and plant their small pencil at the appropriate angle and watch it grow, day by day.
They even have a colored pencil variant now along with a boatload of different plants, herbs, flowers, and vegetables, that come inside of these revolutionary pencils. You can get an 8 pack of either pencils or colored pencils with 8 different varieties of plants, herbs, flowers, and vegetables for $17.95. And while that is quite an outlandish price for some basic wooden pencils, it's a cool thing for schools to try and for you to implement at home.
I hope you guys like this little bit of news, i'll catch you later!
