Classy? Check.
Hey guys, how are you doing?
Before we begin, HUGE thanks to Travis over at Facade Games for sending out Salem for me to check out! Lets begin, shall we?
Salem is a game similar to Mafia. You try to find out who the witch or witches are, if you are a witch then you try not to get 7 accusations, in which case you reveal who you were and get eliminated from the game.
Let's start with the packaging as always. The box is beautiful...to say the least. It feels amazing and is designed to look like a book, it has a magnetic locking mechanism which feels awesome to open and close and goes a long way towards improving the presentation of the game.
The rules are extremely well written, but I didn't find it clear if the players get red, green, and blue cards dealt out to them at the beginning of the game. I couldn't imagine gameplay without it so whenever I play, we deal out 5 red, green, and blue cards to each player at the start of the game. Otherwise, the game is extremely fun and supports up to 12 players! I think the minimum player amount in order to actually have fun playing is 6 players. That's when the action really begins to spike. Setup is simple and fast.
The art on the cards is amazing and really fits with the theme of the game, the cards are also well made and fell good in the hand. I can't really praise Facade Games for recycling a classic party game, but they added A LOT of new elements of gameplay and they changed the theme in order for it to not just be a party game turned card game.
The game is also a great education tool, it really teaches students about how heated the times were during The Salem Witch Trials. As the action rises and students start to turn on each other and accusations start piling on top of each other until everything explodes into a bunch of laughter as the game ends and the witches are finally revealed!
Final Verdict - 9.5/10
At $20 on Facade Games' website, Salem is an awesome gift for any friend or family member! It's also a great tool to use in the classroom!
Thanks for reading guys, i'll see you later!
