Kaweco Fantasy Pen Review
Hey guys, how are you doing.
Before we begin, HUGE shout-out to Kaweco for sending this out for me to review! The point of The Fantasy Pen is so that it is a blank slate that you can put things like jewels, gems, clay and anything your heart desires!
Some Quick Facts About the Pen
- It is made out of brass
- It is a ballpoint pen
- It is an extremely solid pen
Lets start with the good stuff, shall we? The first thing that pops out to me about this pen is that it is extremely well built. It's made out of legitimate BRASS, that's the same stuff that BULLET SHELLS are made out of, so you know that it will be fine if you drop it on the floor or something along those lines. The fact that it is heavy and made out of brass makes it so that you don't have to press as hard when you are writing. It writes well and the ink cartridge is a custom metal one made by Kaweco, although it is the same color as any normal blue ballpoint pen. The pen looks very visually appealing to me even when you don't put any extras on top of it, the simplistic design yet bold color choice makes it stand out, in a good way. The springs in this pen are super strong, and the click when you press the button, is SO satisfying, I took the pen apart in order to see what made it so satisfying and I think it is because there is two springs, one on the cartridge and one on the clicking mechanism.
Now....the Achilles heel. The absolute WORST thing about this pen is the weight. I found that some people(myself included) were able to write their normal speed with this pen, but a lot of people said that it was hard to write with and too heavy, so in the end it really depends on who you are, but for the majority of people this pen will be too heavy to write with. The concept of the pen is so you can attach clay, gems, and other items to it, but if it is too heavy to begin with...then we have a problem. Another flaw is the width, I really like slim pens, but this is WAY too thick. When I took it apart I found out the Ink cartridge did not take up much space! It would even be better for the purpose if it was slimmer, because if you put clay or gems on the pen, it will only get thicker!
Final Verdict - 7.5/10
It is a good functioning pen, the materials and build quality are absolutely TOP NOTCH. But, the weight is a deal-breaker for a lot of people. There is too much unnecessary width for my tastes. All in all, it is a great idea that could have been implemented a little better.
Thanks for reading guys, see you next time!
